Linotar PSE Cream (available in 100and 250ml sizes)

Linotar Gel has been specially formulated to be as oil and fat free as possible in order to enable it to penetrate deeply into the skin. Consequently, it will be inclined to dry out the skin even more. Therefore we suggest you use a moisturising cream over the Gel and, for this purpose, we recommend Linotar PSE Cream as a body moisturiser.

Linotar Lotion (available in 250ml size)

The scalp and face will also require a moisturiser. Linotar Lotion is a specially formulated moisturiser for the face and scalp. If you have lesion on your face and scalp we suggest you add this item to your kit.

How to Use the Linotar Treatment

Linotar Gel is convenient to apply. The treatment procedure is simple and should not be time consuming. We suggest application for the Linotar product range below, however as psoriasis may not affect two sufferers in the same manner and treatment may need to be adapted to your own person needs.

Linotar Gels are available in different strengths based on their Coal Tar concentration. Gel 1 contains 1% Coal Tar, while Gel 2 contains 2% Coal Tar. Begin with Gel 1 and dilute where required, and introduce Gel 2 ONLY after Gel 1 has been established and there are some persistent lesions which have not fully responded to Gel 1.

Cleansing

Remember that Linotar Gel was purposely designed to be as oil and fat free as possible so as to facilitate optimal penetration into the skin. If the gel is applied to an oily skin, its penetration is reduced. It is suggested that you wash the lesions first. Remember to use the correct soap and shampoo!

Choosing the Correct Soap and Shampoo

Due to the rapid movement of skin cells in a psoriatic lesion from the basal layer where cell are created, up to the surface, the upper cells are not able to fulfill their vital protection function. Lesions are therefore extremely susceptible to allergens and strong chemicals. Consider this when selecting your soap and shampoo. They should preferably be hypo-allergenic and not contain any colourants, fragrances or detergents.

Application of Linotar Gel

For the Body – Apply a thin layer of the appropriate strength Gel to every affected area. Wait for the Gel to dry before proceeding. As a general guide line, if the Gel hasn't dried within two minutes, too much has been used. Next apply a thin layer of PSE Cream over the Gel. Repeat the application of the Gel and PSE Cream two or three times a day, as your personal circumstances allow.

Note: Whenever the lesions become dry between application of the Gel and PSE Cream, the PSE Cream can be applied on its own as required as an ancillary moisturiser. An important adjunct in the treatment, the Cream assists in keeping the lesions soft and supple.

For the Face and Body – Apply a thin layer of Gel 1, diluted where necessary, to every affected area. For the head you do not need to rub the Gel through the hair but only apply it directly to the lesions on the scalp. Remember to wait for the Gel to dry before proceeding. Next apply a thin layer of Linotar Lotion over the Gel. Repeat the application two or three time daily. We also suggest that in addition to the above applications, the Linotar Lotion can be used by itself after you wash your hair as follows;

  1. Wash hair with mild detergent free shampoo.
  2. Rinse off and towel hair.
  3. Apply Linotar Lotion whilst hair is still damp. Rub well into hair and scalp with finger tips.
  4. Do not rinse off. Blow dry hair or leave hair and scalp to dry.

For eczema sufferers it is suggested that they begin with Linotar Gel 1 and dilute where necessary as indicated for very sensitive skin. Please note strength of Linotar Gel for young children and babies with sensitive skin.

Treating Psoriasis and Eczema the Linotar Way

Be patient, don't expect overnight results. Stay on course, avoid clever shortcuts.

CAUTION: If you are allergic to Coal Tar, STOP TREATMENT.

If too strong a Gel is used, it may retard the remission process considerably, the lesions could become severely inflamed or flare up. It is not worth your while to take chances, We use these three criteria to decide which Gel to use: age, skin condition and position of lesions.

Age: As a general rule we recommend that sufferers under 7 years and over 60 years commence with Linotar Gel 1. Linotar Gel 2 may be used between the ages of 7 and 60 years, except for lesions which are in an area or condition mentioned below.

Skin Condition: If the skin is badly damaged, tender to the touch, or where a sufferer is considered to have very sensitive skin, for example if the sufferer is a young child or baby, their skin may be very sensitive, then we suggest that Gel 1 should be used, and where necessary, diluted in 2,3 or 4 (or more), with Aqueous Cream BP or Purified Water, to 1 part Gel 1. When the reception of the diluted Gel 1 strength to the skin is considered satisfactory, the amount of Cream or Water can be decreased.

Position of Lesions: Linotar Gel 1 is recommended to be applied to lesions in the following areas: scalp, face, fingernails, palms of the hand, under the arms, groin, genitalia and anal area (external application only), navel, on or around the breast or around the feet. If the area is considered to be very sensitive treat these in the same manner for very sensitive skin above.
